Summary
A favored servant in a gentleman's household is accused of being a cardplayer and gamester. Having been found with a pack of cards on his person, he explains to his master that he uses his cards as both an almanac and a prayer-book. Upon hearing this,t he gentleman, instead of dismissing the servant for gaming, rewards him by doubling his pay.
