Summary
This is the story of Bessie Osborne's employment in the Hillyard household as Muriel Hillyard's governess. As she starts her work there, she learns about the great secret that has caused their isolation from friends and society. She also meets a cheerful young man, Bryan Royston and his uncle, Calvert Grenfell who also has a secret connection to the Hillyards.
