Summary
This is the story of Johnny Eveleth, whose fisherman father dies at sea. When his father's place in the home is taken by another man, he goes to become an apprentice to his uncle, a carpenter. He goes onto learn under other masters and also is helped throughout his life by a kindly Quaker, Ephraim Jenkins. He decides to return home to his family and works to create a life for himself.
