In 1850, Chief Seattle, leader of the Suquamish and Duwamish, welcomed white settlers to his homeland. Although much has changed since that time, the Indian people of the Northwest Coast remain. They also hold on to their cultural traditions in many ways, respecting the salmon of their rivers and the cedar trees of their forests. This text helps us understand the culture of Northwest Coast Indians, especially the relationship with their majestic landscape.
