The former Editor and Publications Director for UCLA's Center for African American Studies, she lives in Los Angeles, California. Michele Wood Michele Wood is a painter, media artist, and printmaker whose work has gained wide recognition in the United States, Canada, and Nigeria. Her first book, Going Back Home, received the 1997 American Book Award and was highly praised for its stunning art and powerful, personal treatment of African American history.
