Summary
"The Bears of Augustusburg" is a tale from Saxon history of the 18th century in which the theft of a comb starts a series of events that ends with death. "Bertrand du Guesclin" and "The Lilac and the Elder" are much shorter stories, the first about a young rebellious youth who is taught to be a good boy by a wise nun, and the second about a girl who learns that every flower has its place.
