Rachel Mason is a gifted 5th grade girl who lives in Florida with her parents and two brothers. Rachel carefully guards the family secret of alcoholism and domestic violence while seeking refuge in her school achievements. When a heartbreaking incident jeopardizes her secret as well as her academic success, Rachel faces her toughest challenge yet. Rachel's caring and creative teacher might be able to help, and maybe even her favorite uncle, a charter pilot. Ultimately, though, Rachel's decisions become the most important.
