Most books in the Special Collection contributed by the Northeast Children's Literature Collection (NCLC) at the University of Connecticut are by Hans Wilhelm, a German author and illustrator living in Connecticut. These books tell stories about a dinosaur named Tyrone who gets into all sorts of trouble; a dog named Waldo who can explain lots of things about our world; bunnies who count; and lots of other animals. Some of the Mr. Wilhelm's books are in other languages, including German, French, Danish, and Norwegian. Other books in the Collection are classics, such as Black Beauty, by Anna Sewell, which tells the story of a wonderful horse and his life in England.
