Looking for Books with Keyword Search

1. We are going to learn how to find books by keyword. Since we want to use keywords, we need to use the Keyword Search tool. Sample Page

2. Suppose we want to find books about dogs. First, we type the word 'dog' into the search box. Next, we select 'English' from the pulldown menu. Finally, we click the 'Search' button. Sample Page

3. Now we can see all the books about dogs. We can sort the books by best match, title, author, illustrator, language, and publication date using the pulldown menu. We can also look at a text listing of these books by selecting 'Text' from the View menu. To learn how to read a book go to the reading books section. Sample Page

4. Keyword searches will search all information about a book, including the title, the author, the summary of the book, what categories it appears in, and when it was published.

5. Here are some advanced tips for using keyword searches:
  • To search for a phrase, such as "black cat", type in "black cat" with double quotes.
  • To perform a single character wildcard search use the "?" symbol.
For example, to search for "cat" or "cut" you can use the search: c?t.
  • To perform a multiple character wildcard search use the "*" symbol.
For example, to search for cat, cats or category, you can use the search: cat*.
  • To search for books containing either dogs or cats, type in dogs cats, or you can also type dogs OR cats.
  • To search for books containing both dogs and cats, type in dogs AND cats.
  • To search for books containing dogs but not cats, type in dogs NOT cats.
